India on Monday, 24 January, witnessed a marginal decline in the daily COVID-19 tally with 3,06,064 new infections. A total of 439 deaths were also reported.

India's active caseload currently stands at 22,49,335, while the positivity rate has risen to 20.75 percent.

India Reports 3.06 Lakh New COVID-19 Cases, 439 Deaths

India on Monday witnessed a marginal decline in the daily rise in COVID-19 cases as it recorded 3,06,064 new infections. A total of 439 deaths were also reported.

India's active caseload currently stands at 22,49,335, while the positivity rate has risen to 20.75 percent.

The active cases constitute 5.69 percent of the total cases reported so far.

COVID-19 Will Be in Endemic Stage 'Very Soon': AIIMS Epidemiologist

A senior epidemiologist at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Sunday said that the COVID-19 pandemic was moving towards the endemic stage.

"Looking at the COVID-19 vaccination status and the natural infection, we can say that very soon, the majority of us will be getting an infection. And then this virus will convert into the endemic virus," Dr Sanjay Rai told news agency ANI.

'Europe Heading Towards COVID-19 Pandemic Endgame': WHO

The Omicron variant has led COVID-19 into a new phase that could bring an end to the pandemic in Europe, the World Health Organization Europe Director Hans Kluge said on Sunday.

"It's plausible that the region is moving towards a kind of pandemic endgame," Hans Kluge told news agency AFP in an interview. He added, "We anticipate that there will be a period of quiet before COVID-19 may come back towards the end of the year, but not necessarily the pandemic coming back."

'Night Curfew Off, Will Take Decision on Further Relaxations': Karnataka CM Bommai

"We've lifted the weekend curfew. After analysing the situation, we will decide on further relaxations in COVID-19 norms, if needed," Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday.

'Have Enough COVID Beds, Medicines': Kerala Health Minister

"We have enough stock of COVID-related and non-COVID medicines. We also have adequate staff in hospitals. Only 43 percent of ICU beds (COVID & non-COVID) are occupied. There is no need to worry," Kerala Health Minister Veena George was quoted as saying by ANI.

"We're also recruiting health care workers, as many health staffers are getting infected in hospitals. COVID cases are increasing but hospitalisation numbers are less," she added.

'Children Are Showing Modern Thinking in Vaccination Campaign': PM Modi

"The children of India have shown their modern and scientific thinking in the vaccination program as well. In just 20 days since January 3, more than 40 million children have got the coronavirus vaccine," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while interacting with youngsters who received the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.

Sharad Pawar Tests Positive for COVID-19

Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar has tested positive for COVID-19.

"I have tested COVID positive but there is no cause for concern. I am following the treatment as suggested by my doctor. I request all those who have been in contact with me in the past few days to get themselves tested and take all necessary precautions [sic]," he tweeted.

Later on Monday, Pawar said in a tweet, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi called to enquire about my health. I am thankful for his concern and good wishes."

In view of COVID, Raj Bhavan, Tamil Nadu, has decided to postpone the 'At Home Reception' on Republic Day, a statement from Raj Bhavan said.

"The reception will be hosted in due course once the situation improves," it added.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday, "It is dangerous to assume that Omicron will be the last variant of COVID-19, or that we are in the endgame."

Chandigarh Reports 568 New Cases

Chandigarh reported 568 new cases on Monday. The positivity rate stands at 14.49 percent, while the active case tally has reached 7,768.

89 Percent Infected With Omicron: Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation

The Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation has said that the results of "the 8th round of genome sequencing reveal that of the total 280 samples, 89 percent were infected with Omicron, 8 percent with Delta derivatives, 3 percent with Delta variants and other subtypes."

Delhi reported 5,760 new cases and 30 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases currently stands at 45,140.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate in the national capital has come down to 11.79 percent.

J&K Reports 5,394 New Cases

Jammu and Kashmir reported 5,394 new cases and eight deaths on Monday. Of these, 2,045 cases were from Jammu and 3,349 cases from Kashmir. The number of active cases currently stands at 44,609.

Pune Reports 7,984 New Cases

Pune reported 7,984 new cases and 14 deaths on Monday.

COVID Protocol To Be Implemented in Budget Session

COVID-19 protocol will be implemented again in the Budget Session of Parliament.

Rajya Sabha proceedings will begin from 9 am and that of Lok Sabha from 4 pm. The new protocol will come into effect from 2 February.

Further, the President's address will be presented on 31 January and the Budget on 1 February.

Telangana Reports 3,890 New Cases

Telangana reported 3,980 new COVID-19 cases, 2,398 recoveries, and three deaths in the last 24 hours.

Active cases currently stand at 33,673.

Mumbai Reports 1,857 New Cases

Mumbai reported 1,857 new COVID-19 cases, 503 recoveries, and 11 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases stands at 21,142.

Karnataka Reports 46,426 New Cases

Karnataka reported 46,426 new COVID-19 cases, 41,703 recoveries, and 32 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The number of active cases currently stands at 3,62,487.

Assam Reports 5,902 New Cases

Assam reported 5,902 new COVID-19 cases, 5,625 recoveries, and 18 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The number of active cases currently stands at 44,075.

Digvijaya Singh Tests COVID-Positive

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said in a tweet on Monday that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Gujarat Reports 13,805 New Cases

Gujarat reported 13,805 new COVID-19 cases, 13,469 recoveries, and 25 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The number of active cases currently stands at 1,35,148.

Non-Vaccinated People Can't Enter Public Places: Assam Govt

The government of Assam said in an order on Monday, "All government servants (including contractual and fixed pay) should be fully vaccinated and shall attend office. Employees who aren't fully vaccinated won't be allowed to attend office and they'll have to avail leave, if available, or extraordinary leave, for which they won't be paid salary."

The order, according to ANI, added, "Non-vaccinated people shall not be allowed entry in public places/spaces (except hospitals). All people are required to carry proof of being fully vaccinated while visiting public places/spaces."

Andhra Pradesh Reports 14,502 New Cases

Andhra Pradesh reported 14,502 new COVID-19 cases, 4,800 recoveries, and seven deaths in the last 24 hours.

The number of active cases currently stands at 93,305.

Kerala Reports 26,514 New Cases

Kerala reported 26,514 new COVID-19 cases, 30,710 recoveries, and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours.

As many as 158 casualties were added to the COVID death list, as per the new guidelines of the central government, and the toll stands at 51,987.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases currently stands at 2,60,271.
