As India continues to grapple with the Omicron outbreak, the country reported 2,51,209 new COVID-19 cases – a small decline from the 2.86 lakh cases on Thursday – and 627 deaths on Friday, 28 January.
While the number of active cases stands at 21,05,611, the daily positivity rate has dropped to 15.88 percent.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is expected to hold a COVID-19 review meeting with the southern states on Friday.
While Delhi recorded 4,291 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, Mumbai saw 1,384 new infections
The weekend curfew has been lifted in Delhi, and restaurants can now open at 50 percent capacity in the national capital

Health Minister Mandaviya To Hold Meet on COVID-19 With Southern States
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will on Friday hold a meeting with the southern states and Union territories on COVID vaccination, health infrastructure, emergency response, and health system preparedness, news agency ANI reported.
The health ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to attend the meeting.

1 Cr Precaution Doses Administered: Health Minister
"In just 19 days, more than 1 crore Precaution Doses have been administered to healthcare and frontline workers and eligible people above 60+ age," Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced in a tweet.
DGCI Gives Approval for Bharat Biotech’s Intranasal Booster Dose Trials
Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on Friday, gave permission to Bharat Biotech for intranasal booster dose trials, ANI reported.
The trials will be done at nine different sites.

Kerala Reports 54,537 New Cases
Kerala reported 54,537 new COVID cases, 30,225 recoveries, and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Number of active cases is at 3,33,447, while the death toll is at 52,786 with 81 deaths added due to lack of documents and 258 deaths added as per Centre's guidelines.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George was quoted by ANI as saying, "the rate of COVID-19 infection is decreasing in Kerala. In the fourth week of January, it has been reduced to 71 percent. Out of the total positive cases in Kerala, only 3.6 percent is hospitalised. ICU occupancy and oxygen bed requirement is not increasing".
Union Health Minister Holds Review Meeting With 8 Southern States
Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed public health preparedness to COVID-19 and vaccination progress with eight southern States/UTs.
He reiterated focus on 5-fold strategy of Test-Track-Treat-Vaccinate and Adherence to COVID Appropriate Behaviour in the meeting.
Mandaviya said, “Mutual understanding, sharing best practices and collaborative spirit between the Centre and States have helped us in our fight against the pandemic”.
Delhi Reports 4,044 New Cases
Delhi reported 4,044 new COVID cases, 8,042 recoveries, and 25 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Number of active cases currently stands at 29,152, while the positivity rate is at 8.60 percent.
Union Health Minister To Review COVID-19 Situation in 5 States
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will review the COVID-19 situation, public health preparedness, and response measures being taken in the view of Omicron variant in Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, via video conferencing at 3 pm on Saturday.

Gujarat Reports 12,131 New Cases, Night Curfew To Remain
Gujarat Chief Minister's Office announced on Friday that night curfew from 10pm to 6am will remain imposed in total 27 cities of the state including 8 major cities till 4 February. Hotels and restaurants will be allowed to continue home delivery service 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Gujarat reported 12,131 new cases, 30 deaths and 22,070 discharges in the last 24 hours.
Number of active cases stand at 1,07,915.
Maharashtra Reports 24,498 New Cases, 103 Deaths
Maharashtra reports 24,948 new COVID cases, 45,648 recoveries, 103 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The new cases also included 110 people who tested positive for Omicron. Number of active cases stands at 2,66,586.
67.5 Percent Omicron Cases in Karnataka: Health Minister
Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar informed on Friday, that as per thegGenome sequencing results in the state, 67.5 percent Omicron and 26 percent Delta cases in third wave of COVID-19 have been reported.
He added that 90.7 percent Delta cases were reported in the second wave.
West Bengal Reports 3,805 New Cases
West Bengal reported 3,805 cases with a daily positivity rate of 6.15 percent on Friday. A total 61,883 tests were conducted.
Assam Reports 2,861 New Cases
Assam reported 2,861 new cases, 21 deaths, and 6,002 recoveries on Friday. Number of active cases stands at 32,013.
Haryana Govt Issues New Guidelines: Colleges, School To Open From 1 February
Haryana government on Friday released new guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19.
All cinemas/multiplexes will operate with 50 percent seating capacity.
Universities, colleges, schools for classes 10 to 12; coaching/training institutes both government and private are allowed to open with effect from 1 February.
