India on Tuesday, 21 July, reported 37,148 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the country to 11,55,191. The death toll increased by 587 to 28,084. According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 4,02,529 active cases across the country, while 7,24,577 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated.

In a briefing on Tuesday, a Health Ministry official said that the number of COVID-19 deaths per million population in India continues to be among the lowest in the world, while pushing for aggressive testing to bring down the positivity rate.

Meanwhile, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa has announced that there will be no lockdown in Bengaluru and other districts from Wednesday, adding that lockdown is not the solution to COVID-19.

The government has amended the export policy pertaining to PPEs/masks, with the export of medical coveralls of all categories (except surgical drapes, isolation aprons, surgical wraps and X-ray gowns), medical goggles, all masks other than non-medical/non-surgical masks, medical nitrile/NBR gloves and face shields, remaining banned.

1,349 New COVID-19 Cases in Delhi; Tally Rises to 1,25,096

Delhi on Tuesday reported 1,349 fresh COVID-19 cases and 27 fatalities, taking the tally in the national capital to 1,25,096 and the death toll to 3,690.

4,965 New COVID-19 Cases in TN, 720 in Kerala

Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported 4,965 COVID-19 cases and 75 deaths, taking the tally in the state to 1,80,643 and the death toll to 2,626.

Meanwhile, Kerala reported 720 new infections, taking the tally in the state to 13,994.

No Lockdown in Bengaluru From Wednesday: Yediyurappa

There will be no lockdown in Bengaluru and other districts from Wednesday, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa announced, saying lockdown is not the solution to COVID-19.

"There'll be no lockdown from tomorrow. People need to get back to work, economy is also very important. We have to fight COVID-19 while maintaining a stable economy. Lockdown is not the solution, now restrictions will be placed only in containment zones," Yediyurappa was quoted as saying by ANI, adding that experts have suggested a '5T' strategy of tracing, tracking, testing, treating and technology.

Discussions Underway on How Vaccines Would be Made Available: NITI Aayog Member

NITI Aayog member (Health) Dr VK Paul said during the Health Ministry briefing on Tuesday that India's two COVID-19 vaccines are in phase 1 and 2 of trials, with discussions underway on how would the vaccines be made available to all those who need it.

“The Government of India will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the people of India and the international community have access to an Indian vaccine as early as possible. Every possible facilitation will be ensured making sure trials are conducted scientifically and ethically, and we arrive at an affordable option," he was quoted by ANI as saying.

Watch: Health Ministry's Briefing on the COVID-19 Outbreak

In a briefing on Tuesday, a Health Ministry official said that the number of COVID-19 deaths per million population in India continues to be among the lowest in the world at 20.4, while pushing for aggressive testing to bring down the positivity rate.

“Aggressive testing is necessary to bring down COVID-19 positivity rate... The aim is to maintain this level of testing so as to bring down positivity rate below 5 percent,” Rajesh Bhushan, OSD, Health Ministry, was quoted by ANI as saying.

50 New Cases in Arunachal Pradesh

At least 50 people, including nine Army jawans and six police personnel, tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the state tally to 790.

200 New Cases in Tripura

Over 200 people, including 19 BSF personnel, tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura, PTI reported.

10 New Cases in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh reported 10 new COVID-19 positive cases, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,641 including 10 deaths.

Nepal to Resume Domestic, International Flights from 17 August

The Nepal government has decided to resume odomestic and international flight operations starting from 17 August, nearly four months after they were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The suspension of the flights came on 22 March to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country, reports Xinhua news agency.

During the months, only chartered flights for humanitarian purpose or delivery of medical goods were allowed.

647 New Cases in Odisha

At least 647 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours in Odisha. The total number of positive cases in the state rises to 18,757 including 12,909 recovered.

Brazil Death Toll Crosses 80,000

The COVID-19 death toll in Brazil crossed the 80,000-mark, news agency AFP reported.
