WHO Director General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus reportedly shared on Monday, 3 August that the COVID-19 cases globally have increased more than five-fold in the last three months. He also said that while there is hope for multiple effective vaccines, there doesn’t seem to be any silver bullet.

India on Monday, 3 August, reported 52,972 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 18,03,696. The death toll increased by 771 to 38,135. According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are now 5,79,357 active cases across the country, while 11,86,203 patients have been discharged.

Delhi CM Gives Rs 1 Crore to "Corona Warrior" Dr Joginder Chaudhary's Family

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, 3 August, met the family of COVID-19 warrior Late Dr Joginder Chaudhary and handed him a cheque of Rs 1 crore as financial assistance.

“Our Corona Warrior Dr Joginder Chaudhary, posted in Delhi Government Hospital, served the patients by putting his life at stake. Dr Chaudhary had passed away recently due to corona infection, today I met his family and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore as financial assistance. Will help the family in every possible way,”

West Bengal Government Changes Lockdown Dates

West Bengal government has changed the lockdown dates, reported ANI. Statewide complete lockdown shall now be observed on the following days: Wednesday, 5th August; Saturday, 8th August; Thursday, 20 August; Friday, 21 August; Thursday, 27 August; Friday, 28 August and Monday, 31 August.

Punjab Reports 677 New Cases of COVID-19

Punjab reported 677 Coronavirus cases and 19 deaths in the last 24 hours, State Health Department reported on Monday, 3 August, according to ANI. This takes total cases to 18,527 including 11,882 discharges and 442 deaths,

5,609 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Tamil Nadu

5,609 Covid-19 cases reported in Tamil Nadu on Monday, 3 August. Out of these 1021 cases were from Chennai

56,278 persons tested, 5,800 patients discharged, 109 deaths reported on Monday.

Total tally in the state: 2,63,222 cases, 2,02,283 discharged and 4241 deaths

433 Active COVID-19 Cases in Chandigarh: Administration

Number of active cases of COVID-19 reached 433 in Chandigarh on Monday, according to the administration. The death toll stands at 19, reported ANI.

509 COVID-19 Cases Reported in 24 Hrs in Jammu and Kashmir

590 COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths reported in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours, said the Jammu and Kahsmir Administration on Monday, 3 August. With this, total cases have risen to 22,006 including 14,032 recoveries and 407 deaths, reported ANI.

207 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand State Health Department reported 207 new Coronavirus cases on Monday, 3 August, according to ANI. This takes the total case tally to 7,800 out of which 3,134 cases are active.

805 New COVID-19 Cases in Delhi: Delhi Govt

Delhi Government reported 805 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, 3 August, according to ANI. 937 cases were also reported to have recovered, migrated or been discharged on Monday. 17 deaths took place, as well.

Total cases in Delhi have reportedly risen to 1,38,482 including 1,24,254 recovered/discharged/migrated cases and 4021 deaths.

Government of Delhi, according to ANI, also said that 3904 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 6229 Rapid antigen tests were conducted on Monday, and a total of 10,73,802 tests have been conducted so far.

1,081 Active COVID-19 Cases in Himachal Pradesh

Number of active cases of COVID-19 reaches 1,081 in Himachal Pradesh, said the State Health Department, according to ANI.

Essential Immunisation Services Ensured by eVIN: Govt


In a press release, dated Monday, 3 August the Government said that that the Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) has been instrumental in providing essential immunisation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) is an innovative technological solution aimed at strengthening immunization supply chain systems across the country...eVIN aims to provide real-time information on vaccine stocks and flows, and storage temperatures across all cold chain points in the country.”

Further, the press release stated that eVIN has reached 32 states and union territories (UTs) and will soon be rolled out in the raining states and Its of Andaman and Nicobar islands, Chandigarh, Ladakh and Sikkim.

“Since April 2020, eight States (Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Maharashtra) are using the eVIN application with 100% adherence rate to track State specific COVID-19 material supplies, ensure availability and raise alerts in case of shortage of 81 essential drugs and equipment.”

Further, the circular said “this strong platform has the potential to be leveraged for any new vaccine including COVID-19 vaccine, as and when available.”

India Conducts More than 2 Crore COVID-19 Tests: Govt

In a press release, the Government of India has shared that India has conducted more than 2 crore COVID-19 tests, taking the test per million tally to 14,640.

“In a landmark achievement, India has tested 2,02,02,858 COVID-19 samples so far. This is pursuant to the key strategy followed by State/UT governments under the guidance of Centre for management of COVID-19 to “Test aggressively, Track efficiently and Isolate and Treat promptly”. Effective implementation of this approach has led to ramping up the testing capacity across the country and facilitated widespread COVID testing of people.”

Further, the press release stated that 24 States/Union Territories, including Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Goa “have better tests per million than national average.”

Hope for Multiple Vaccines, But No Silver Bullet: WHO Director-General

Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General, of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has reportedly shared that cases globally have increased more than five fold, and the number of deaths has increased more than three times.

“Number of cases globally has increased more than five-fold to 17.5 million and the number of deaths has more than tripled to 680,000 since WHO’s emergency committee on COVID-19 last met three months ago.”

Dr Ghebreyesus, pointed out that a number of vaccines are now in phase-3 of clinical trials and there’s hope for a number of effective vaccines. However, Dr Ghebreyesus also said that “there’s no silver bullet at the moment, and there might never be.”

“A number of vaccines are now in phase-3 clinical trials and we all hope to have a number of effective vaccines that can help prevent people from infection. However, there’s no silver bullet at the moment and there might never be.”

Main Focus is COVID-19, Only those Invited Should Attend Ayodhya Event: Yogi Adityanath

Speaking about the Bhoomi Pujan event, slated for 5 August in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath said that their “main focus is on COVID-19”. According to ANI, he also stated that only those who are invited should attend the event, the PM will be representing all the devotees.

“We’ve made all arrangements to ensure that there is no laxity on any count. Main focus is on COVID-19. The protocol has to be enforced very strictly. Only those who are invited should come here. All devotees want to come but PM will represent all of them.”

Over 2 Crore Tests Conducted in India Till Now: ICMR

The number of COVID-19 tests in India has crossed the 2-crore mark, with 2,02,02,858 tests conducted till 2 August. Out of these, 3,81,027 tests were conducted on Sunday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Over 18 Lakh With 52,972 New Cases, 771 Deaths
