Maharashtra on Thursday, 27 August, reported 14,718 new COVID-19 cases and 355 fatalities, taking the tally in the state to 7,33,568 and the death toll to 23,444. Meanwhile. 1,840 new infections were recorded in Delhi, which took its case count to 1,67,604

A lockdown has been imposed in Punjab from 7 pm to 5 am on all days to contain the spread of coronavirus, the Punjab government tweeted on Thursday. Notably, on 20 August, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh had ordered the extension of weekend lockdown, along with a daily night curfew from 7 pm to 5 am in all the 167 cities or towns of the state.

Delhi on Thursday reported 1,840 new COVID-19 cases and 22 fatalities, taking the tally in the national capital to 1,67,604 and the death toll to 4,369.

29 Punjab MLAs Test Positive, CM Appeals to Their Contacts Not to Attend Assembly Session

Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday appealed to legislators who had come in contact with the COVID-19 positive MLAs and ministers to avoid attending the one-day Assembly session on Friday.

As many as 29 MLA and ministers in the state have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.

Sixth Phase of Vande Bharat Mission Scheduled to Start on 1 Sept

The sixth phase of the Vande Bharat Mission is scheduled to start on 1 September, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday. “Based on an assessment of demand by our missions abroad, flights are being rescheduled by Air India group and private carriers. Bubble arrangements with different countries will continue as per schedule in next phase 2,” it said.

Lockdown Imposed in Punjab from 7 pm to 5 am on All Days

A lockdown has been imposed in Punjab from 7 pm to 5 am on all days to contain the spread of coronavirus, the Punjab government tweeted on Thursday.

"The timing of opening of liquor vends has been fixed upto 6.30 PM in all the Municipal Cities of the State... Excise Department challanes 43 liquor vends in the State for not following the designated timelines," it added.

10,621 New COVID-19 Cases in Andhra Pradesh; Tally Rises to Over 3.93 Lakh

Biggest spike of 75.7 K Cases Takes India's Tally Over 33 Lakh

With the highest ever spike of 75,760 fresh cases, India's COVID-19 case tally crossed the 33 lakh mark on Thursday, 27 August.

The COVID-19 case tally in the country now stands at 33,10,235 including 7,25,991 active cases, 25,23,772 cured/discharged/migrated and 60,472 deaths.

3.85 Cr COVID-19 Samples Tested Till Date

The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to 26 August is 3,85,76,510 including 9,24,998 samples tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

Early Identification, Testing Kept Fatality Rate Low: Health Ministry

Early identification through aggressive testing, comprehensive surveillance and contact tracing, and focus on timely and efficient clinical treatment of patients have ensured a high number of speedy recoveries and has also kept the case fatality rate low, the Ministry of Health tweeted.
