'Misleading': Serum Institute on Reports Suggesting COVIDSHIELD Will be Commercialised in 73 Days

Hours after news reports suggested that India’s first COVID vaccine, COVISHIELD, will be commercialised in 73 days, Serum Institute has now clarified that the reports are misleading.

“COVISHIELD will be commercialised once the trials are proven successful and all the requisite regulatory approvals are in place,” the statement read.

6 New Cases in Dharavi

At least 6 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Dharavi area of Mumbai today. The total number of cases in the area rose to 2,711, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) notified.

Requested Centre to Allow Opening of Delhi Metro in Phased Manner: Kejriwal

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday lauded the efforts of Delhi government and frontline workers in the national capital and said that he has asked Centre to allow opening of Delhi Metro in a phased manner.

“We imposed lockdown in Delhi only once, and then gradually resumed work across fields from 1 June onwards. Probably, Delhi is the only city where lockdown hasn't been imposed again, as we understand work and COVID management can go hand-in-hand,” he said.

“We have requested Centre to allow re-opening of Delhi Metro in a phased manner, on a trial basis, as COVID-19 situation in Delhi is under control now. I hope the Centre will take a decision soon,” he added.

114 New Cases in Manipur

Manipur reported 114 new cases of COVID-19, taking total cases to 5,246, the State Health Department notified.

5,975 New Cases in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu reported 5,975 new COVID-19 cases, 6,047 recoveries and 97 deaths today, taking total cases to 3,79,385.

1,908 New Cases in Kerala

At least 1,908 new COVID-19 cases and 1,110 recoveries were reported in Kerala today, taking active cases to 20,330, Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

5,423 New Cases in UP

Uttar Pradesh reported 5,423 new COVID-19 cases and 59 deaths in last 24 hours, taking active cases to 49,242.

1,450 New Cases in Delhi

Delhi reported 1,450 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 1,61,466 including 4,300 deaths.

1,101 New Cases in Gujarat

Gujarat reported 1,101 new COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total tally to 86,779 including 2,897 deaths.

10,441 New Cases in Maharashtra, 991 in Mumbai

At least 10,441 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra today. The total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 6,82,383.

Out of these, 991 new cases were reported in Mumbai today. The otal number of positive cases in the city now stands at increases to 1,36,348 including 7,419 deaths.

495 New Cases in Uttarakhand

At least 495 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Uttarakhand today taking the total number of cases to 15,124.

India recorded 69,239 cases and 912 deaths according to the health ministry on Sunday, 23 August. The total number of COVID cases in India stand at 30,44,941 including 7,07,668 active cases, 22,80,567 cured/discharged/migrated and 56,706 deaths.

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 22.8 million, while the deaths have increased to over 7,97,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
