How many celebrity breakups of 2016 are you caught up on?
Going by how things stand, 2016 may just go down in history as the year that will be always spoken about in hushed tones.
Apart from all the other things that humanity has dealt with this year, 2016 has also seen the maximum number of high-profile break-ups.
1. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
The couple, who were together for 11 years and married for two of those, filed for a divorce this year and are also seeking joint custody of their six children.
2. Amber Heard and Johnny Depp
The couple parted ways a year-and-a-half after swapping vows. Things got ugly after Heard filed abuse allegations against her actor-husband.
A temporary-restraining order was filed against Depp in the wake of her allegations.
3. Mariah Carey and James Packer
The award-winning singer and the Australian billionaire announced their engagement January 2016. They split in October.
4. Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman
Barrymore and Kopelman called it quits in the spring of 2016. The two were married for three years and have two daughters.
5. Marc Anthony and Shannon De Lima
Reports of the two parting ways came just a day after Marc Anthony kissed his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, at the 17th annual Latin Grammy awards in November.
While it was speculated that the split was caused by the kiss, actress Leah Rimini dismissed the reports. Rimini, who is close to the couple, said their divorce had long been settled before the kiss.
6. Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart
Lopez has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Smart, one of her backup dancers, since 2011.
While the couple have not confirmed the split, they have been off-again since August.
7. Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris
One of the most high-profile break-ups of the year, the two musicians split after a 15 month-long relationship.
They appeared to separate on amicable terms and posted about it on social media. However, the posts were soon deleted.
8. Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston
The two were snapped at a number of locations just days after the Swift - Harris split. Though the two never confirmed their relationship to the press or via social media, they were together till the end of summer, which is when they supposedly split.
9. Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney
The pair, who have been together since 2011, parted ways this year. However, their split may be temporary as they have both used social media to hint that they are still in love.
