Fifty frantic calls and five days of desperate search at public places later, The Quint’s Parul AGrawal finally manages to find four women in the political hotbed of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, who are ready to answer a simple question – What is it that women voters in Kerala want from their candidates in the Assembly elections.

In a state with the highest rate of literacy for women, you find them everywhere. Managing shops, running hospitals, working in tech firms and as teaching professionals. But when it comes to politics, men in Kerala seem to think that it is their domain by default. So in a state that boasts to have the country’s highest literacy rate, and where women voters outnumber the male voters, literacy or education do not seem to have directly enhanced empowerment of women.
