Motorola refreshes its Moto G line up with the G Turbo that falls in between the Moto G (3rd Gen) and Moto X Play. Priced at Rs 14,999, Moto G Turbo looks like the replica of the latest Moto G, the only difference being its IP57 certification.
With this feature, Motorola claims that the Moto G Turbo can withstand partial submerging of the phone for a brief period, not that we recommend you to try it. For some reason, Motorola sticks with HD-resolution display for the G Turbo and at a time when you can easily get full-HD phones for under 10K that’s just hard to digest for a sub 15K pricing.
On the hardware side of things, Moto G Turbo gets upgraded to the octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, instead of the quad-core Snapdragon 410 seen on the Moto G. Xiaomi’s Mi 4i is also powered by the same chipset that appears to be a mixed bag for all its strength underneath.
There’s 2GB RAM on offer and with 16GB storage (expandable up to 32GB), users can save all their apps and data without worrying about losing space.
There isn’t much to differentiate between the cameras of Moto G and Moto G Turbo. Both carry the 13-megapixel snapper that does manage to click decent pictures in daylight, but nothing worth talking about in low-light conditions. Same goes for the 5-megapixel front selfie camera as well.
Another feature that Motorola has left untouched with the Moto G Turbo is the 2470mAh battery. Yes, it might have the turbo-charging feature (enabled by the bundled turbo charger), but they could have managed a bigger unit in the first place, something they’ve been admired for with the Moto X Play.
It is fair to say that Motorola has played a strange game by launching the Moto G Turbo before the Moto X Force that comes with a shatter-proof display. For Rs 14,999 we don’t expect a big improvement with the Moto G Turbo.
