It wasn’t a day to remember for the Australian cricket team as they were run ragged by India on Day 2 of the Sydney Test, with the visitors racing towards a first-ever Test series win on Australian soil.

Big hundreds from Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant led India to a massive first innings score of 622/7d – their second-highest in Tests Down Under – leaving Australia with a mountain to climb if they are to claw back and level the four-Test series.

As if that wasn’t enough, Tim Paine was then interrupted by a phone call while he addressed the media after day’s play. But the Australian skipper, despite his team’s long day out on the field, kept his wits about him.

A phone, belonging to one of the reporters at the press conference, went off while Paine was speaking to the media. Not to be perturbed by the same, the Australian captain picked up the ringing phone and carried out a conversation – even taking a message for the reporter in question!

Paine’s team will have to maintain their wits about them on the field in Sydney over the coming days, as they take up the arduous task of trying to win a Test match after conceding over 600 runs over the first two days.

Australia went into Stumps on Day 2 at 24/0, still trailing India by 598 runs. India lead the four-Test series 2-1, having won at Adelaide and Melbourne on either side of a defeat at Perth.
