Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav put India in the driver’s seat after picking up four wickets each on the third day of the first Test against West Indies on Saturday. Shami and Yadav’s heroics helped India bundle out the Caribbeans for 243 runs in their first innings. After Virat Kohli enforced the follow-on, West Indies ended the day’s play on 21/1.
Virat Kohli led from the front with the bat yet again with an amazing knock of 200 runs in the first innings which propelled India’s first innings score to 566/8. The Caribbeans trail by 302 runs at the moment.
On day three, Shami and Wriddhiman Saha equalled the records of being the quickest Indian fast bowler to reach 50 Test wickets and most dismissals in a Test innings by an Indian wicket-keeper respectively.

1. Shami Takes 50 Test Wickets
Mohammed Shami equalled Venkatesh Prasad’s record of being the quickest Indian to reach 50 Test wickets. Shami, who was out of the Indian side for almost one-and-a-half years due to a knee injury, made a terrific comeback to the Test arena with figures of 4/66 in the first Test.
2. Saha Equals Dhoni’s Record
Wriddhiman Saha, who bagged six dismissals during West Indies’ innings in the first Test, equalled MS Dhoni and Syed Kirmani’s record of the most dismissals by an Indian wicket-keeper in an innings of a Test match.
The 31-year-old, who took five catches and effected one stumping in the first Test against West Indies has taken 19 catches and effected 6 stumpings in his Test career.
3. India Enforces Follow-On in the Caribbean for the Third Time
India enforced the follow-on against West Indies on their home soil for the third time in the history of cricket. In the previous two occasions when Ajit Wadekar and Rahul Dravid had asked the West Indies team to follow-on, the matches were drawn but India clinched the series 1-0 in 1971 and 2006.
