As if losing his wife was not enough, a man has been booked after his wife riding fell and died while riding pillion, after the bike’s wheels got stuck on an under-repair trench dug by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Kammanahalli Main Road on Monday.

The victim, Jolly Abraham (45) – a pre-school teacher – was on her way to work. She was being dropped off by her husband Abraham, who is a retired army officer. Jolly was not wearing a helmet, reported The Times of India.

A case has been registered at Banaswadi police station.

According to the police, the water board had undertaken a project to lay pipelines for drinking water in the road in May. They had dug up the road and had filled the potholes with mud, which had been washed away by the rains.

The couple lost balance as they tried to avoid the pothole. Jolly suffered severe head injuries and was declared brought dead to the hospital. Abraham, who suffered minor injuries, has been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence, said the police.

The water board engineer and contractor have also been booked for negligence.

All three accused, including Abraham, will be arrested by Tuesday, reported The New Indian Express.
