Cyclone Likely to Hit Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh In Next 48 Hrs

  • A cyclone alert was issued for Tamil Nadu and the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday by the Indian Meteorological Department. The cyclone is likely to hit the regions within the next 48 hours.
  • The warning stated that heavy downpour was expected over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during next 24 hours. Wind speeds are expected to hit over 50 kmph along Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coast in the next 48 hours.
  • Chennai has been witnessing heavy downpour since Sunday, which has awakened memories of the flood that had ravaged the state in December.
    The Greater Chennai Corporation has called in four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to tackle the emerging flood like situation which may be caused by the incessant rains.
    Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today directed all district Collectors and Chief Secretary S P Thakkar to take precautionary measures in view of cyclone threat to prevent any inconvenience to public life.
