In a recent interview with NDTV, Union Minister Bharti defended charges against the Centre for its delayed reaction to the drought crisis. She added that this is perhaps the first time in history that water trains have been sent to combat drought.
In response to using water trains and tankers as a last resort to tackle drought situations Bharti said that “drought is a phenomenon for which it is pointless to plan in advance.”
She defended herself and the Centre by stating that last year there was rainfall despite the predictions.
Uma Bharti says that water is a state subject. She alleges to have personally travelled to drought-stricken states to give stern lectures to the governments and guide them on how to take measures to save water and fight drought.
The union minister also blamed a corrupt Maharashtra government and the previous Congress-NCP irrigation scheme that led to this water crisis. She threatened to expose the corruption at the appropriate time.
