As heavy rains continue to pound several parts of the state of Tamil Nadu, life has come to a standstill in the capital city of Chennai and some other areas. Residents have taken to Twitter to talk about the problems caused by the incessant flooding.

Floods have so far claimed 59 lives in the state.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has offered her condolences to the bereaved and announced four lakh rupees from the Disaster Relief Fund to each family.

The weather office forecast rains in many places in the southern districts with heavy rains in some areas of northern Tamil Nadu over the next few days.
