1. Dalit Boy’s Death: Two Police Officers Booked
Two police officers were booked on Friday on charges of murder of a 15-year-old Dalit youth in Sonipat even as Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar claimed that he had committed suicide and had not died in police custody as alleged by his family.
Murder charges were slapped against two Assistant Sub Inspectors of police, said Superintendent of Police, Sonipat, Abhishek Garg.
Khattar maintains that it was a monetary issue between the two families that led to the boy committing suicide.
The Chief Minister announced a job for one family member and monetary compensation for the family.
The family claims that the police also forced them to cremate the body on Thursday while stressing on the possibility of police harassment in the future.

2. Dalit Writer Assaulted, Warned That Fingers Will be Chopped Off
Huchangi Prasad, a 23-year-old Dalit activist and writer, was allegedly attacked by unidentified men who warned him to stop writing or have his fingers chopped off on Wednesday in Davanagere, central Karnataka.
On October 21, late night, a group of eight to nine persons came to SC/ST hostel where I reside and told me that my mother was unwell. Worried, I followed them. They took me to a place and started threatening and assaulting me for writing against Hinduism and caste system.

The journalism student has authored a book, Odala Kichchu, which speaks against the caste system.
A case has been registered against unidentified persons at RMC Yard Police Station in this regard. Police said they are on a lookout for the eight to ten people involved in the attack.

3. CBI Files Chargesheet Against MP, Three Others for Loss to Exchequer
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), an employee of Delhi-based private Air Travels Company, then-Office Superintendent (Traffic), Air India and a private person for causing an alleged loss to government exchequer.
A case was registered on October 31, 2013 against an MP, a private air travels company along with Customer Service Agent (CSA) of the company, public servants of Air India and few others.
The case was registered on the allegations of claiming reimbursement by the MP for fake air tickets and boarding passes.

4. Hardik Patel Arrested in Second Sedition Case
Patel quota agitation leader Hardik Patel was arrested on Friday by the Ahmedabad crime branch in connection with the second sedition case registered against him and sent to judicial custody by a Surat court.
We took his custody through a transfer warrant (from Surat court). Our officials have already left Surat with Hardik and they will reach here at midnight.

Surat police first booked him for sedition for allegedly advising a local youth to kill the police rather than commit suicide.
He may be produced before a metropolitan court in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

5. Widow Hacked to Death by Husband’s Cousin After Failed Sexual Advances
A 43-year-old widow was hacked to death in Udhgamandalam, Tamil Nadu by her deceased husband’s cousin on Friday after she allegedly rejected his sexual advances, police said.
The accused man, Amrithalingam, had made failed sexual advances several times.
Angered by her refusal, the man hacked the woman to death with a sickle in O’valley area and fled the scene after threatening locals who tried to catch him, police said.

6. Two Held for Selling Liquor on Dry Day
Two persons including a liquor dealer were arrested on Friday on charges of selling liquor in violation of dry day declared by the East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid in the Sidgora market and recovered 13 cartons of foreign liquor.
The district administration had declared a three-day dry day in the district in view of Durga Puja and Muharram.

7. HC Defers Hearing on Case Against Modi as Prosecutor Seeks Time
The Gujarat High Court virtually postponed the hearing on a plea alleging election code violation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2014 general election.
Justice JB Pardiwala posted the hearing to October 27 after public prosecutor Mitesh Amin sought time.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Nishant Verma moved the court against the verdict of a local court which dismissed his plea in May.
Chief judicial magistrate of Ahmedabad rural court SR Sinh had dismissed his plea, upholding the clean chit given to Modi by the Ahmedabad crime branch.

8. HC Dismisses TANGEDCO’s Review Pleas
On Friday, the Madras High Court declined to hear the review pleas filed by Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation LTD on absorbing over 900 contract labourers as per a labour court order of 2007.
Several awards (orders) were passed by the Inspector of Labour, Cuddalore District on the petitions filed by the temporary workers of TANGEDCO claiming to have granted permanent status to them.
After the organisation failed to grant them permanent employment, a few workers filed petitions seeking a direction to the TANGEDCO to implement the order passed by the Labour Inspector.
A single judge on September 16, 2011 directed TANGEDCO to comply with the orders passed by the Inspector as they were not challenged.

9. Tribal Woman Commits Suicide Over Alleged Gangrape, Angry Mob Assaults Police
A 45-year-old tribal woman hanged herself to death from a tree barely 100 metres from a police station in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district in full public view after being allegedly gangraped, on Thursday.
Enraged over the incident, a mob assaulted Inspector-in-Charge of Khunta Police Station Uttam Mohanty, sub-inspector Sumati Mohanti, one assistant sub-inspector, two lady constables and one constable, the police said.
Later, a case was registered and 23 people were arrested for the attack on the force.
According to an FIR by the woman’s son, she went missing while waiting for public transport from Mayurbhanj, Baripada district to the neighbouring district Dharmagarh where she lived.
An SDJM court remanded them to judicial custody after rejecting their bail pleas on Friday.
