The one scene that will remain etched in my mind for a long, long time is the one where Saqib Saleem dislocates his shoulder. He plays Viraj, a brilliant cricketer who manages to both dislocate and relocate his own shoulder within a matter of a few seconds. This happens twice over in the course of the film and the sheer randomness of it all makes for a unique watch! A character wearing a khadi jacket over her saree, clearly inspired by our External Affairs Minister’s sartorial style, receives a mail with an attachment titled “click me”.

She clicks and then removes her hand from the mouse as if waiting for the attachment to explode. It doesn’t…it merely answers the most vital question – 36 hours before the all important India-Pakistan final Viraj gaya kahaan? As it turns out …he has been kidnapped. Madam Minister announces, “Viraj ho ya 12th man sabki security ki zimmedari hamari hai” and almost on cue, John Abraham saunters in slo mo into the proceedings.

He smokes and doesn’t take kindly to being reminded that it is injurious to health. Iss mard ko dard nahi hota…and even if he is in pain, John’s wooden face won’t let even the flicker of an expression permeate it. Mr Chimney is soon joined by Varun Dhawan. Varun tries to make up for John’s facial coma with his buffoonery, and together they waltz into action.

The slo-mo walk happens quite a few times and while we wonder if there is a plot at all or whether the idea is just a figment of our imagination. We soon realise that this film is firmly ensconced in the “Masala”genre of filmmaking. Director Rohit Dhawan ensures it has all the necessary accoutrements – crowd pleasing dialogues, flashy action sequences and bevy of bikini clan women gyrating to loud music. Nargis Fakhri in a bikini, Jacqueline’s dance moves, Akshay Kumar’s cameo, Akshay Khanna’s villainy, Varun’s cute smile and John’s chiseled body all make for some low IQ, high drama harmless fun!

The swashbuckling bravado of the 2 heroes will leave you gobsmacked, but they are easy on the eyes. And with a run time of 124 mins, the pace doesn’t hurt. Go for it if you must. I give it 2.5 QUINTS out of 5.
