If you think you are having a bad day spare a thought for dear Katrina Kaif! To see your own boyfriend’s electrifying chemistry with his ex. Oh the horror!

Moving on, I’m just glad Tamasha has finally released. Let’s get it over and done with because seeing Ranbir and Deepika on every show, on every channel, all the time talking about “our film releases on November 27” has to stop right? Hopefully it ends here!

Director Imtiaz Ali is back with his bagful of unresolved college day issues and a story pandering to students wanting to take a gap year. Also present is the usual angst, the feeling of belonging somewhere else, the straight-jacketing by society and peculiar individual quirks against the beautiful landscape of Corsica.

If Darsheel Safary from Tare Zameen Par was allowed to grow up without the supervision of Amir Khan he would have turned into Ved. Ved mouths cheesy Hindi film dialogues, breaks into a Dev Anand act mid sentence and befriends the free spirited Tara in Corsica. Now what happens in Corsica…happens in every other Bollywood film. Like they warn us in the trailer – it’s the same story!

So this “same story” has a slightly different treatment. The dramatic element of Tamasha is brought forth with the help of small nuggets of stories weaved into the narrative by the talented Piyush Mishra.

Now, Tamasha seems to have not one but two directors. While Imtiaz Ali might be scratching his head over which way to manoeuvre the script, it’s AR Rehman’s music that saves the day. With one brilliant track after another he keeps us entertained and tries his best to camouflage the fact that the story is taking forever to buffer!

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor are stunning in the movie.

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor are stunning and the raw energy that they bring on screen is so infectious that one can’t help but fall in love with Tara and Ved. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the only reason Tamasha would be remembered fondly is because of the sheer magnificence of these two.

Overall, the film has its heart in the right place. The emotional conflict strikes a chord, the naughty flirting tickles us and the music is a winner. But at 150 minutes it’s just too long and takes forever to come to the point. I’ll give it 3 QUINTS OUT OF 5. Watch it because Deepika-Ranbir’s chemistry and Corsica’s geography deserve to be appreciated on the big screen.
