As many as 10,000 houses were ravaged by the storm while mobile services were also hit. Fallen trees have also hampered road connectivity and power supply in the region.

On Wednesday, the Nitish Kumar-led state government announced a compensation of Rs four lakh each for the families of the victims.

We are assessing the situation, and appropriate measures will be taken. The incident took place in the night.
– Chief Minister Nitish Kumar

Purnea district was the worst hit with 25 people losing their lives there. Six people died in Madhepura and one in Madhubani district.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is slated to do an aerial survey of the affected areas on Wednesday. He said that he will personally take stock of the situation and ensure every possible help. He will also meet the families of the victims.

The locals have been helping the administration in removing the trees blocking access to the villages.
